galway's plan to make this game a dress rehearsal of the allianz nfl division one final fell by the wayside as the kingdom ran out seven-point winners in tralee.
there was little between the sides in the first half and the kingdom led by just one point - 0-05 to 0-04 - at the break.
kerry killed the game off quickly upon the resumption as goals from tommy walsh and kieran donaghy put them in the driving seat.
padraic joyce grabbed a late consolation goal for the visitors.
there were no signs early on of the comprehensive victory that was to follow. only two points were scored in the opening 13 minutes. declan o'sullivan opened the hosts' account in the sixth minute before micheál meehan brought galway level.
two points in the closing stages of the first half, including a routine free for colm cooper, gave kerry edge after a cagey opening 35 minutes.
the 'twin towers' of donaghy and walsh grabbed a lot of headlines last summer and their two-goal salvo inside the first five minutes of the second half will have their partnership back on the agenda as we head towards the championship.
and that's all galway have to look forward to now as their league campaign finished today. manager liam sammon will no doubt be frustrated as a draw would have been enough to see them reach the decider.
kerry, meanwhile, look forward to their chance to avenge last year's league final defeat by derry.
